
Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery
After completing this course, the student will be able to:
Discuss the principles of wound healing
Describe the steps involved in the extraction of erupted teeth (including instrument selection, flap design, osteotomy and tooth sectioning)
Recognize conditions requiring a biopsy and describe biopsy techniques
List and describe the surgical techniques for preprosthetic surgery
Assess patients with the following conditions and discuss their surgical management
Impacted teeth
Pathosis of the head and neck (especially odontogenic cysts and tumors)
Dental and dentoalveolar trauma
Soft tissue injuries
Fractures of the jaw and mid-face
Facial skeletal deformities
Achieve surgical asepsis
Anesthetize a patient for dentoalveolar surgery
Refer patients requiring consultation with an Oral Surgeon
